What is Laser Therapy (a.k.a Photobiomodulation Therapy)? At our clinic, we have been using laser therapy for many years for the treatment of acute and chronic injuries. Our bodies are self-healing for most injuries. Many times we don’t need therapy after an injury because our bodies can self-heal. However, in cases where the injury is substantial enough, our body is unable to heal from that injury.

How does Laser Therapy work? How does it help?

In our body, everything is made of cells – nerves, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bones are all made of cells. When a laser is delivered to the injured cells, the cells absorb the laser energy which gets converted to energy that the cells can use to heal. Different types of tissue require different dosages of energy to heal as well as different depths of penetration. That is why at VBI we utilize different laser technologies from different manufactures. We have multiple units of low-level laser systems (Bioflex laser) and multiple high-powered laser systems (K-laser and Avicenna laser). Over the years of utilizing lasers for healing, Dr. Corey has found that different laser systems have their advantages.

The use of lasers:

  • improve tissue repair so injured tissue heal quicker
  • reduce pain and inflammation (when inflammation builds up in the joint, reduce range of motion to the joint). By reducing pain and inflammation, joint movement is improved
  • increases muscle elasticity

Lasers penetrates through the skin to the injured tissue and can penetrate deep into the spine for patients suffering from disc injuries and cartilage injuries in joints which is beneficial for people with osteoarthritis or wear and tear.

Should I consider Laser Therapy?

Laser Therapy is recommended for:

  • Muscle, tendon, ligament injuries (acute and chronic)
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Knee injuries (ligament tear, meniscus tears, arthritis)
